PROFILE
Frederic
was born in 1972. Since his childhood he has been in contact
with the sea, spending several monts a year on the family
sailboat. At the age of 10, he dicovered freediving and
spearfishing.
After some years of practice, he became a padi and cmas
scuba diving instructor and starts to teach freediving in
1991. Then, two years after completing his publicity and
communication studies, he sets his 1st world record in 1995
and decides to dedicate his life to freediving and begins
to travel the world.In 1996 he participated to the first
world cup and attained the deepest announced depth of the
competition.
The following year, he started a freediving school in Porquerolles
island, in south of France, organised a competition and
sets his 2nd world record. In 1998 he participated to the
second world cup, became Apnea Academy instructor and organised
freediving courses with Umberto Pelizzari. In 1999 Frederic
won the constant weight event of major competition of the
year, the red sea dive off' and sets his 3d world record
in Switzerland. It's also in 1999 that Frederic passes the100m's
mythical barrier in no-limits for the first time in the
waters of Porquerolles island.
He became vice president of AIDA international, the freediving's
governing body. As an AIDA judge, he has already been present
on over than 15 world records.In 2000, he won two rounds
of the world cup with the Belgian team, set his 4th world
record in UK and initiated a freediving research program,
working with universities, hyperbaric medecine center and
sport teachers.
In 2001, he took part in training and organisation of two
world records withTanya Streeter. In october he was in the
Belgian team for the world championship.Few freedivers have
such an extensive experience of all the aspects of this
wonderfull sport.
